Now that we’ve gone over what to expect from QuickBooks® 2014, it’s time to install and implement the new software. If you’re excited to start taking advantage of the improvements and new features, but dreading the installation process, don’t worry! We have a few useful tips that can help speed up setup and get you to work in no time.
Convert QuickBooks as of January 1st.
Did you know: converting to a new accounting system at the start of a new year significantly simplifies the process? Since it’s only October, this means you’ll have to wait a few months before you can start reaping the benefits of QuickBooks 2014, but starting a new financial year when the New Year begins will let you enter a simpler trial balance. At the start of the year, for example, you’ll only have to enter asset, liability and owner’s equity account balances. At any other time, you’ll also have to enter year-to-date income and year-to-date expense account balances, which can get tricky.
Take advantage of online data.
Automatically grabbing data from banks and vendors, including PayPal®, will take a load of work off you during the setup process. Doing so will instantly transfer information into QuickBooks, making data more accurate and entry faster. Try it—it’s not as difficult as you think, and you’ll save a lot of time (and avoid potential errors) in the long run.
Outsource your payroll.
Managing payroll can be one of the trickier and risker aspects of owning and running a small business. There’s so much more to payroll than simply writing checks and handing them out to employees on time—you need to keep accurate records, calculate and pay taxes and communicate effectively with employees. A lot of work can go into this, so save time and money while avoiding penalties by outsourcing; your payroll will be more cost-effective and efficient.
Get targeted help from your QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
This might seem obvious, but your ProAdvisor can probably get QuickBooks up and running faster than you can say “QuickBooks 2014.” Spending a little extra money by having your ProAdvisor assist with the setup process could potentially save you hours and get you off to a great start with the program.
Do all of your accounting with QuickBooks.
Don’t do almost everything with QuickBooks—fully dedicate your business’s accounting to the program. QuickBooks offers a complete solution to the accounting process, so take advantage of this! From pointing your company in the right direction financially to saving you hours on payroll, the program is an extremely powerful business tool that makes streamlining and going online with your accounting easier than ever.
